'Wherever I got to be, that's where I'm going to be' — Jaylon Moore is embracing his versatile role along offensive line

One of the biggest signings of the offseason for the Kansas City Chiefs was offensive lineman Jaylon Moore.

Many assumed he would become their new starting left tackle, but Josh Simmons landed in Kansas City's lap with the 31st overall pick in the 2025 NFL Draft. Simmons recovered from a torn patellar injury that he sustained in college quicker than expected, and has taken the starting LT job by the horns.

It now appears that the Chiefs plan to use Moore as a jack-of-all-trades lineman who can fill in for a starter when needed. While speaking to the media following Day 11 of training camp, Moore said he has been in this role before throughout the first four years of his career with the San Francisco 49ers.

"Here and there," Moore said about playing multiple positions. "Especially being a backup with San Francisco. I always had to be ready for multiple things. The biggest thing for me is just trying to keep improving, wherever I got to be, that's where I'm going be."

Moore began camp running with the first-team offense at right tackle, However, Jawaan Taylor has been working his way back from knee surgery recovery into the rotation over the past week. That has prompted K.C.'s coaching staff to plug Moore in at left guard, splitting first-team reps with Kingsley Suamataia. Moore said he is taking the challenge in stride.

"It's newer, but it's football," Moore said about playing LG. "The biggest thing is just keep trying to take steps forward. Just keep trying to improve, looking at the film, and keep trying to improve every day."

Moore being able to fill in at both tackle and guard will pay dividends for both the team and himself as an individual. With Simmons and Taylor coming off of recent knee injuries and Suamataia being a relative unknown at LG, having Moore as insurance is huge. It also makes Moore's stock as a player more valuable, which could help him secure a starting role down the line.
