Which Buccaneers Players Would Be Best Suited For Flag Football?

So people have been putting together their dream fantasy flag football teams. A lot of the same players end up on the list. There seems to be general agreement that Lamar Jackson would be the best QB followed pretty closely by Kyler Murray (maybe Jayden Daniels depending on the next few years).

There’s also agreement that Justin Jefferson and Jaamar Chase are the two best WRs for team USA. Which, to be honest, kinda makes me want to put Joe Burrow in as QB just to bring back that 2018 LSU team for one last hurrah. But I want to look at some guys on the Bucs who could make it.

Some guys on the Buccaneers that have been thrown out are Baker Mayfield and Mike Evans. However, I don’t think either would be the best choice for their respective positions. You have to wonder about Evans age (although he has said he would want to play when he is retired) and neither are particularly fast. At least, not compared to others at their position. In flag football, being fast and shifty is the most valuable trait and less physicality. It’s why a guy like Brock Bowers is being tossed out at TE as opposed to George Kittle. Receiving ability and separation is the most valuable trait.

That’s why I think a guy perfect for the Bucs on the flag football team is Bucky Irving. Jamyr Gibbs is the popular pick for the role here (I’m partial to Derrick Henry just because seeing someone from another country face against him is a hilarious image). Gibbs has the more proven ability as of right now, but if Bucky proves year one wasn’t a fluke, I like him more here. He is a shifty runner, even if he isn’t the fastest. Breaking tackles doesn’t matter when you aren’t tackling, but defenders will still likely have a hard time pulling him off… I mean pulling his flag off.

The more I think about it, the more that I like Tykee Smith’s chances. When you only have five guys on each side of the ball, versatility becomes so much more important. Tykee brings that as a guy who can play safety and also corner. While Brian Branch would be the more talented player who fufills this sort of role, who’s to say where they both are in terms of ability in a few years. This one wouldn’t happen as of right now, but I like Tykee’s potential and if he improves upon a really good rookie season, he could be in this conversation.
