Which Top Rookie TE Should You Target in Your Dynasty League?

The 2025 NFL Draft featured a pair of blue-chip tight end prospects in Penn State's Tyler Warren and Michigan's Colston Loveland, both of whom came off the board among the top 15 picks.

Loveland was first off the board at No. 10 overall to the Chicago Bears, while Warren was selected four spots later, landing with the Indianapolis Colts at the No. 14 overall spot.

Spending that kind of draft capital on a tight end typically means that team is planning to make that player is a huge part of their offensive game plan, but from a dynasty league perspective, which of these dynamic playmakers should fantasy managers prioritize in their rookie drafts?

In the latest episode of "Best Podcast Available," I spoke with Thor Nystrom from Matthew Berry's Fantasy Life about who should get the nod as the first tight end off the board in dynasty rookie drafts this year.

"Loveland's a heck of a player, and obviously, he got drafted higher, and you love that offense more . . . but I would way rather have Tyler Warren, both for this year, and for dynasty," Nystrom said.

Nystrom said there are plenty of promising similarities between Warren and last year's top tight end prospect who dominated the league as a rookie.

"My take on Tyler Warren is very similar to my take on Brock Bowers from a year ago," he continued. "People would be like, 'Oh, he's going into a bad offense and all these different things, but that guy is idiot-proof, and he's scheme-proof. Because what you do is, you manufacture touches, and then be breaks tackles, and he does his run-after-catch thing. And the fact that he's in a crappy offense, they're gonna manufacture touches for him all the more."

Despite a run-heavy scheme that features one of the league's worst quarterback situations with Daniel Jones and Anthony Richardson expected to battle it out through training camp and the preseason for the starting job, Nystrom believes Warren's talent and skill set will still make him a fantasy star.

"He makes everyone else's job easier," Nystrom said. "That's what Tyler Warren's gonna do for the Colts."

Warren showed off impressive versatility as a playmaker in college, and Nystrom expects the Colts to tap into that unique skill set in ways that will add value to his immediate and long-term fantasy projections.

"He's also gonna siphon off touchdowns from Jonathan Taylor on the occasions where they're down there inside the 5-yard line," Nystrom said. "I think you're gonna see a lot of the Wildcat quarterback stuff from him in short-yardage that we saw at Penn State."

When comparing Warren and Loveland, Nystrom acknowledged their differing skill sets and playing styles, which are likely to be reflected in how their new NFL teams deploy them at the next level.

"Warren and Loveland are very different types of players," Nystrom said. "Warren, more the 'berserker' type, wearing the No. 44 jersey for John Riggins, and all that stuff. Loveland is a receiver in a tight end's body. He's the stretched-out guy, the big slot."

Loveland is joining a Bears offense that has a promising franchise quarterback in 2024 No. 1 overall pick Caleb Williams, but also a stacked group of playmakers in the passing game. Rome Odunze and D.J. Moore return as Williams' top targets through the air, while veteran tight end Cole Kmet and rookie second-round receiver Luther Burden III will also cut into Loveland's potential target share.

"It's not just about per play, who's the ball going to . . . it's also the fact that you have one too many pass-catchers for available spots on the field," Nystrom said about Chicago's surplus of offensive playmakers. "Either Burden has to be off the field, Kmet has to be off the field, or Loveland has to be off the field. I'm interested to see how that shakes out."

How will Loveland's talent and draft slot impact his ability to make an instant splash for the Bears? What other aspects of this year's rookie class should dynasty owners be considering as they prepare for the 2025 season and beyond?
