Who has the most Super Bowl rings?

On Feb. 8, 2026, the New England Patriots and Seattle Seahawks will meet in Super Bowl LX.

In addition to etching their names into the history books, the winners will also receive flashy jewelry to mark the win. Before the teams meet at Levi's Stadium in Santa Clara, California, here's a look at the history of Super Bowl rings.

Who has the most Super Bowl rings?

North Carolina Tar Heels head coach Bill Belichick, snubbed in January 2026 for a first-ballot Pro Football Hall of Fame selection, leads with eight rings — six as Patriots coach (XXXVI, XXXVIII, XXXIX, XLIX, LI, LIII) and two as New York Giants defensive coordinator (XXI, XXV).

Quarterback Tom Brady, meanwhile, has the most rings by a Super Bowl player with seven — six with the Patriots alongside Belichick and another with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers (LV).

The non-QB with the most Super Bowl championship rings is former Dallas Cowboys and San Francisco 49ers defensive end/linebacker Charles Haley with five (XXIII, XXIV with the 49ers and XXVII, XXVIII and XXX with the Cowboys).

Who are the QBs with the most Super Bowl wins?

No other quarterback besides Brady has even five Super Bowl rings. Hall of Famer and current Fox Sports studio analyst Terry Bradshaw received four as quarterback of the Pittsburgh Steelers (IX, X, XIII, XIV), and he was joined by fellow Hall of Famer and former San Francisco 49ers QB Joe Montana (XVI, XIX, XXIII, XXIV) a decade later.

How much do Super Bowl rings cost?

Prices vary, but let's just say you could get a new car and still have plenty of cash left over with the money it would take to buy one.

The LV champion Buccaneers have the most expensive Super Bowl ring on record. It features 319 diamonds and a removable top revealing an engraved Raymond James Stadium. "The raw material value was north of $60,000 apiece," ring designer Jason Arasheben told The Athletic in 2021 about the jewelry.

When did the championship ring tradition start?

Championship rings date to the late 19th century in North American sports. Per Yahoo Sports' Sean Leahy, in 1893, Montreal won the inaugural Stanley Cup — then more commonly known as the Dominion Hockey Challenge Cup — and received gold bands to honor its victory.

It wasn't until 1922 that MLB caught on, while the NFL's history is a bit more complicated. During the league's nascent years, it didn't even provide a championship trophy, let alone help cover the costs of championship rings.

In 2017, Green Bay Packers team historian Cliff Christl wrote that during the Packers' three-peat from 1929-31, community members collected funds to give to players, who received $220 and a watch in 1929, $200 in 1930 and $100 in 1931.

According to Yahoo Sports' Frank Schwab, the first known NFL championship rings came via the Philadelphia Eagles following their 1948 title season. But it wasn't until the 1955 Cleveland Browns that champion rings became a common occurrence. Teams such as the 1946 Chicago Bears and 1951 Los Angeles Rams received gold, football-shaped charms, while the 1954 Browns received 14-karat gold watches.

Super Bowl winners have always received rings, which have only grown more extravagant over the years — from Green Bay's modest 0.5-carat Super Bowl I rings to the Eagles' massive Super Bowl LIX rings featuring 140 grams in diamonds, white gold and green sapphire and wings that pop out of the bezel. It's been a remarkable evolution, with teams constantly one-upping each other. It's anyone's guess what the next 60 Super Bowl rings will bring.
