Why Bills' 2024 Season Is A Tough Grade

The Buffalo Bills were once again one of the Super Bowl contenders in 2024, despite many thinking that Sean McDermott's team would take a step back.

This was due to Stefon Diggs and Gabriel Davis being shipped off, and many were unsure if Josh Allen  could make it work with Khalil Shakir, Curtis Samuel, Mack Hollins, Keon Coleman, Dawson Knox, and Dalton Kincaid.

Well, he did.

The Bills finished with a 13-4 record and had the division won with almost half the season left to play, but everyone wanted to see how they would fare in the playoffs.

Wins against the Denver Broncos and the Baltimore Ravens set up an AFC Championship showdown with the Kansas City Chiefs...which they again lost.

For some, that takes the shine off what was otherwise a great season for the AFC East champs, but not for CBS Sports' Bryan DeArdo, who gave Buffalo's 2024 season a B+ grade.

"The Bills overachieved this season," DeArdo writes. "They won two more games than the previous year despite parting ways with former All-Pro wideout Stefon Diggs. Buffalo received an NFL MVP season from quarterback Josh Allen, who proved he can still play at a high level while taking better care of the football.

"The Bills had a great season, but they once again came up just short in the playoffs against their chief rival in Kansas City. But that loss shouldn't completely overshadow what was another good year for the Bills that included a fifth consecutive AFC East division crown."

The Bills once again had a chance to slay their bogeyman but couldn't, making it four losses in a row to Patrick Mahomes.

Still, it was another 11+ win season, a division title, and Allen's MVP award in a season many thought the Bills would struggle badly. So, it depends on how you look at the season.

It can be seen as good for the reasons we mentioned above, or it can be seen as a failure due to once again losing in the playoffs to the one team many think you simply can't beat when it counts.

Overall, the 2024 season can be seen as a positive one for the Bills, but that playoff loss tarnishes what had the potential to be a special year for Buffalo.
