Why Bills' Josh Allen feels winning MVP Award 'doesn't change' his life

Buffalo Bills quarterback Josh Allen emerged as the winner of the Most Valuable Player Award for the 2024 regular season, but his campaign came to an end via a 32-29 loss to the Kansas City Chiefs in the AFC Championship Game.

During the season premiere of the "Hard Knocks: Training Camp with the Buffalo Bills" program, Allen touched upon why his personal achievements only mean so much to him this summer.

"Being mentioned for MVP means your team is doing really well, probably in the hunt for the playoffs, and you're doing your job," Allen said, as shared by Grant Gordon of the NFL's website. "It doesn't change my life to have that accolade or to have more of those accolades. The only thing that I'm worried about is doing everything I can to bring a Lombardi Trophy here."

Allen guided the 2024 Bills to a 13-3 record and the No. 2 seed for the postseason tournament before Buffalo rested starters in Week 18 of the campaign. According to Pro Football Reference, he and Baltimore Ravens star Lamar Jackson ended the regular season leading the NFL among qualified players with a 77.3 adjusted QBR.

For an article published in February, ESPN's Courtney Cronin mentioned that Allen's 85.3 QBR and 6.5 yards per dropback when pressured "were the highest ever in a season since ESPN began tracking pressures in 2009."

That said, Allen previously acknowledged that falling to 0-4 against the Chiefs in postseason play has him motivated to be better than ever later this year. Those who share a locker room with Allen remain confident he can take the Bills where they want to go.

"He just elevates every single year," Bills offensive tackle Dion Dawkins told the "Hard Knocks" crew about Allen.

During the offseason, Allen agreed to a six-year, $330M contract extension that included a record $250M in guaranteed money. He also married actress/singer Hailee Steinfeld.

"Got married May 31," Allen added during the show. "I don't know if people know that, but that was the best night of my life, honestly. And my wife's life, I think; that's what she says."

As of Wednesday morning, DraftKings Sportsbook had the Bills and Ravens tied as the betting favorites at +600 odds to win Super Bowl LX. One wonders if Allen getting his hands on the Lombardi Trophy this coming February would cause him to alter his power rankings regarding the best nights of his life.
