The Kansas City Chiefs will be glad they have a bye through the first week of the wild card round of the NFL playoffs due to the team's recent and impending travel issues.
Earlier this weekend the Chiefs reportedly tried to move up their flight on Sunday afternoon due to impending weather in the Kansas City area. Unfortunately, the plane they were expected to use was delayed, which left the team with their original travel plans.
With "rapid ice accumulation" in the area, though, Kansas City International Airport was closed for four hours as the Chiefs waited on the tarmac to leave, according to a report from ESPN.
Thankfully the Chiefs were eventually able to leave Kansas City and travel to Denver on Saturday night, albeit with a four-hour delay. The bad news was only just beginning for the Chiefs, though.
According to a report from CBS sideline reporter Tracy Wolfson, the Chiefs won't be able to travel home on Sunday night.
"Kansas City has to stay overnight in Denver because of weather issues in KC. 8 inches of snow have already fallen and they are expecting up to 12 inches. There is 2 inches of ice underneath the snow and airport is closed. They will leave tomorrow morning," Wolfson said.

The good news for the team is that there's no hurry to get home and start preparations for the wild card round of the playoffs. After clinching the No. 1 seed in the AFC with a win over the Pittsburgh Steelers on Christmas, the team is resting its starters this weekend and will have plenty of time to prepare for the divisional round of the playoffs.
