The Tampa Bay Buccaneers fell to 1-5 after Sunday’s devastating 26-19 overtime loss to the Pittsburgh Steelers. As the losses continue piling up, one question deserves serious attention: Why isn’t head coach Todd Bowles giving David Walker more playing time?

Walker has been one of the few bright spots in an otherwise disappointing season. The second-year outside linebacker is producing the kind of pass-rushing results Tampa Bay desperately needs, yet his role remains a frustrating question mark.

David Walker Is Producing. Bowles Needs to Respond.

Through his first six NFL games, Walker has recorded four sacks. That’s the most by a Buccaneers player in 30 years and ties the third-highest total in franchise history over that span.

Those numbers aren’t insignificant, especially for a young defender still establishing himself in the NFL. Walker is demonstrating that he can disrupt opposing quarterbacks and provide the pass-rush production Tampa Bay needs.

Meanwhile, the Buccaneers continue struggling to close games and generate consistent defensive pressure. Their fourth-quarter collapse against Pittsburgh only reinforced the need to maximize their most productive defensive players.

That’s where Bowles’ personnel decisions deserve scrutiny. If Walker is delivering this kind of production, Tampa Bay needs to give him more opportunities to make an impact.

Todd Bowles Cannot Keep Ignoring the Results

Bowles is responsible for putting his defense in the best position to succeed. That includes recognizing which players are producing and adjusting their workloads accordingly.

Walker has provided tangible evidence that he deserves an expanded role. Continuing to limit his opportunities while the defense struggles raises legitimate questions about Bowles’ personnel management.

The Buccaneers are now 1-5, and their season is slipping away. This isn’t the time to prioritize established rotations over rewarding productive players with meaningful opportunities.

Walker has earned the chance to prove what he can do with more snaps. If Bowles wants to improve a defense that keeps surrendering leads, getting Walker more involved should be an obvious adjustment.

The numbers are already there. Now Bowles needs to give Walker the opportunity his production warrants.
