Why Only Have Two Running Backs Active?

Why Only Have Two Running Backs Active? One of my biggest criticisms of Miami Dolphins coach Mike McDaniel is his inconsistent approach to the running game, whether it is working or not, and his failure to utilize his running backs effectively. Now you can add only having two running backs active for games. Last night, for 3
rd time in 4 games, he made Jaylen Wright a healthy scratch on game day. With no one being called up from the practice squad, the fair question is, why? Especially when Ollie Gordon got hurt and then left DeVon Achane as the only healthy back. You could use Alec Ingold, but that would be silly. I don’t understand McDaniel’s thinking or logic behind it, especially if one of your backs goes down to injury. You have no one else, or you are playing someone out of position. Against the Atlanta Falcons a week ago, McDaniel and offensive coordinator Frank Smith utilized Gordon, Achane, and Wright effectively by mixing up the carries and touches. You would think after last week’s win that McDaniel and Smith would have a similar game plan, but this is par for the course. McDaniel isn’t splitting the carries like he should consistently, so Achane isn’t overused. He doesn’t give the ball to Gordon in the short-yardage situation like he should. I do not understand what he is doing with Wright. You need three running backs active, and last night was a bad look because of the worst-case scenario. It just shows how clueless McDaniel can be as a head coach. I doubt he will learn his lesson. Going into training camp, I felt one of the biggest areas of strength was running back, but McDaniel is clueless about how to use them consistently or get them on the field. It shows mostly week in and week out.
