On paper, Sunday’s Packers vs. Browns game in Cleveland has the potential to get out of hand, and rather quickly.
NFL games, of course are famously played on 100-yard patches of grass, rather than paper, but there are a few trends that suggest Green Bay might have a rather easy time of it in the Packers’ bid to remain unbeaten at 3-0 to open the 2025 campaign.
NFL Media’s Ali Bhanpuri argues that the combination of Browns quarterback Joe Flacco’s lack of mobility and the Packers’ swarming pass rush could turn Sunday’s game into a laugher.
“Joe Flacco currently sports the league’s worst pass EPA at -23.9,” Bhanpuri writes. “More than 10 points less than the next-closest passer (J.J. McCarthy, -13.2) and nearly four times worse than the QB above him (Bryce Young, -6.4), per Next Gen Stats. Unsurprisingly, the 40-year-old Flacco has struggled against pressure, with his lack of mobility making him a real liability after the snap. He’s managing a miserable -1.03 EPA/DB when pressured (second-worst, min. 40 attempts), with 0 TDs and 3 INTs, despite being blitzed at one of the lowest rates in the league. Guess who is really effective at generating pressure while only rushing four? Yep, Green Bay.”
Micah Parsons’ presence has elevated the Packers’ front-seven and helped power one of the NFL’s most swarming defenses. Against the Browns, Green Bay’s defense may have the opportunity to feast, and power a third consecutive win to open the season.
