Why Patriots QB wants to regain the 'respect' of the organization

"I'm going to do everything I can to earn the respect of everybody in this building again," Jones said Sunday, per Mike Reiss of ESPN. "Really great people are formed through ups and downs. Some of the learning experiences last year I had will help."

Jones flashed potential during his rookie season, throwing 24 TDs and making the Pro Bowl. Yet he regressed last season, only throwing 14 TDs in 14 games and posting a 36.1 QBR, 28th in the NFL.

Not all blame falls on the 24-year-old. Matt Patricia replaced former offensive coordinator Josh McDaniels as the primary offensive play-caller despite having no offensive play-calling experience. Consequently, the Patriots offense sputtered, finishing 17th in scoring and 26th in yards. New England relieved Patricia of his offensive play-calling duties after the season.

Jones' frustrations last season were understandable, but he could've displayed more composure.

Jones let his temper get the best of him throughout the season. He received fines for unnecessary roughness twice and unsportsmanlike conduct. He also screamed at coaches on the sideline during a Week 13 loss to Buffalo.    

Per Albert Breer of Sports Illustrated, New England head coach Bill Belichick "wasn't happy" about Jones' conduct and reportedly placed him on the trade block.  

The Patriots gave him another chance instead of trading him. They also provided more help on offense by hiring Bill O'Brien as OC and signing WR JuJu Smith-Schuster, a former Pro Bowler.

However, the additions put more pressure on Jones since he has fewer excuses. He must recapture his rookie form to prove that the Patriots can trust him as their future franchise QB.
