Why Rams head coach Sean McVay could miss Sunday's game

There is a chance that the Los Angeles Rams will have to play Sunday's game against the Arizona Cardinals without the services of their head coach, Sean McVay, on the sidelines.

McVay said at his Friday press conference that his wife is due to give birth to their son "any moment" now and that if she goes into labor on game day he will not be coaching the game.

He said that he and his wife are really fortunate that it has been a smooth pregnancy so far and that the reality of his son being born has not quite hit him yet.

While McVay said he would miss the game if his son arrives on Sunday, he did not offer any sort of a contingency plan in the event he is not there. Though it is a reasonable expectation that defensive coordinator Raheem Morris would probably be the person to get the main headset given his prior experience as a head coach with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

McVay has been the Rams' head coach since the start of the 2017 season and has been one of the most successful head coaches in the league since he was hired.

During his time with the Rams, the team is 62-41 in the regular season with only one losing season in his first six years. He has also taken the Rams to two Super Bowls, winning during the 2021 season by defeating the Cincinnati Bengals.

The Rams are 2-3 this season and looking to get back to .500 on Sunday against a Cardinals team that is short on talent but has played its games much closer than expected this season. Whether it is McVay or somebody else making the decisions the Rams are going to be in for a tough game.
