Why renovations to Jaguars stadium raise concerns about future in Jacksonville

The Jaguars may need to find a new home fast.

Renovations to TIAA Bank Field raise questions about their future in Jacksonville. Per Mayor Lenny Curry, they could displace them for two years.

"That's the best-case scenario," Curry told WJXL-AM in Jacksonville on Wednesday. "The goal would be to play somewhere else in Jacksonville. Those discussions are happening, but two years is the goal ... I do know that they are considering certain sites that are local that could accommodate them for at least two years."

Jacksonville has time to find another location. The renovations should impact it in 2025 and 2026. However, it must be proactive because the Jaguars are a potential relocation candidate.

"If any of the 32 teams would be moved across the Atlantic Ocean to fill out a four-team European division (and barring four expansion teams, at least one team will), the Jaguars are a top candidate to go by far," wrote NBC Sports' Mike Florio.

Per The Florida Time-Union's David Bauerlein, the Jaguars have played more home games in London than any NFL team. In 2023, Jacksonville will become the first team to play consecutive international games in a season via Front Office Sports.

The second-largest stadium in Jacksonville is Hodges Stadium at the University of North Florida.

It's unsuitable for an NFL team because its capacity is 12,000. TIAA Bank Field's capacity is 67,838.

The next local option could be Camping World Stadium in Orlando (141 miles away), which has a capacity of 60,219. However, England is on the table, too, via Florio.

The Jaguars' stadium lease runs through 2029. After it ends, the team could officially move.
