Why Stay With McDaniel?
I don’t get the logic, or is there a master plan beyond my comprehension?
Perhaps there is, and with the wealth that Stephen Ross possesses, billionaires may think differently.
Then again, Stephen Ross is loyal to his appointees to a fault, as was evident in his decision to retain General Manager Chris Grier despite his shortcomings.
Chris Grier was eventually fired because he was ineffective at identifying the right players and had consistently poor drafts, missing a high percentage of his picks.
Yet Coach Mike McDaniel stays put?
For now, we are told at least through the 2025 season.
Why?
Okay, Chris Grier was not very effective in developing the current roster.
I can go with that sentiment.
And it is not McDaniels’ fault, as he inherited a terrible roster for the 2025 season.
Okay, I agree.
What about when McDaniel had a full roster of Pro Bowl players at the same time?
Like in 2023?
When the Miami Dolphins were on their way to the AFC East division title and a first-round bye in the playoffs?
And is Ross ignoring the fact that McDaniel and Grier worked hand in hand not only to find players but also to compensate them excessively, such as Tua Tagovailoa?
And we have not discussed the shortfalls that McDaniel has in game management, adapting to defenses, implementing an overly complicated offensive scheme, and establishing himself as the dominant presence in the locker room, as well as on the field.
So, why keep McDaniel through this season or even remotely consider him as our head coach in 2026?
The only reason I have read is that the Dolphins’ owner, Stephen Ross, likes him and believes in him.
As a fan, that is flawed logic.
Then again, I am not the billionaire owner of this franchise, so I have no say in the matter and will have to live with the consequences.
So at least for the remainder of the 2025 season, we will continue to wear those trash bags over our heads.
