Why taking RB Breece Hall off pitch count will supercharge struggling Jets offense

The New York Jets taking running back Breece Hall off a pitch count will give their offense a jolt it desperately needs.

Last season, Hall suffered a season-ending ACL tear. Despite concerns about the injury, it's not affecting him. In four games this season, the 22-year-old has rushed for 210 yards on 32 carries (6.6 yards per carry).

Getting him more involved should be a priority.

"From an opportunity standpoint, there is no pitch count with him anymore," New York head coach Robert Saleh said Wednesday, per the New York Post. "We would love to get him going, but at the same time, we have a lot of guys we want to get the ball to."

The Jets have a deep backfield with former Pro Bowler Dalvin Cook and Michael Carter. Yet it's clear Hall should be RB1 due to his big-play ability. The RB has ripped off long runs this season, including an 83-yarder in a Week 1 win against Buffalo and a 43-yarder in a Week 4 loss against Kansas City.

"That's a game-changing play; I take pride in that," Hall said of his run against the Chiefs on Wednesday, per ESPN's Rich Cimini. "So after the game, I was really frustrated, beating myself up about it because RBs are human erasers and game-changers. So I felt like, if I score there, it changes the whole momentum of the game."

No one is more equipped on the Jets to make those big plays than the second-year back with his blazing speed, which could help the unit solve its problems on offense.

The Jets offense ranks 30th in yards (1,011) and is tied for 28th in points (62). Breece can also take pressure off third-year quarterback Zach Wilson, who's been inconsistent, posting a 38.5 QBR.

After a 1-3 start, the Jets need a spark to avoid missing the playoffs for a 13th straight season. Giving Hall more touches could provide it with his home run ability and history of big plays in his short career.
