Why the Bengals are just fine at safety

The Bengals lost both of their starting safeties Jessie Bates III and Vonn Bell in free agency. However, they are going to be just fine at the position heading into the 2023 season.

Cincinnati signed former Rams safety Nick Scott to a three-year, $12 million contract last Friday. He helped beat the Bengals in Super Bowl LVI and will now try to help them win their franchise's first Lombardi Trophy.

Scott, who is still just 27, had a career-high 86 tackles, two forced fumbles, two interceptions and five passes defensed in 2022.

The addition of Scott was much needed but it's Cincinnati's 2022 first-round pick that lessened the blow of losing Bates III and Bell. Safety Daxton Hill is heading into year two with a much bigger role incoming.

Hill played in 15 games in 2022 but had just 16 tackles in his limited action. The 22-year-old was taken with pick No. 31 last year and will now get the opportunity to prove the Bengals right for taking him when they did.

Scott and Hill may not be names that jump off the television screen, but they could certainly work towards becoming a solid safety duo in Cincinnati while on cheap deals.

Plus, when you've got Joe Burrow at quarterback, you've always got a chance to win.
