Why the Steelers are set up for success

The Steelers haven't won a playoff game since the 2016 season, but are things about to change for the better in Pittsburgh?

NFL.com writer and draft analyst Daniel Jeremiah believes they are and it all starts with the team's new general manager and assistant general manager.

"The good thing is, Omar [Khan] is smart. Omar has been there. He knows what the Steelers are supposed to look like and how they're supposed to play," Jeremiah said. "I think Andy Weidl coming over there … somebody I've known forever. He is going to kind of bring his background with the Ravens and Eagles."

The 2023 NFL Draft will be Khan and Weidl's first draft without the Steelers' previous general manager Kevin Colbert. However, Khan has already looked like a veteran in the position, setting up the team nicely heading into the draft.

Following the deal that sent WR Chase Claypool to the Bears for pick No. 32, Pittsburgh now owns three picks in the top 49. It's the first time the team will have three picks in the top 50 since 1989.

The Steelers have a number of needs but they certainly have the capital to fill them, and Khan and Weidl could be the perfect duo to build a championship team in Pittsburgh.

"If you look at those teams and how they've been built and the sustained similar to the Steelers in that it's a line-of-scrimmage organization," Jeremiah added. "I think they are philosophically aligned there."
