Will 49ers revisit Maxx Crosby trade after Ravens back out of deal with Raiders?

While this development is not directly tied to the San Francisco 49ers, the team reportedly showed some interest in star pass rusher Maxx Crosby. The Las Vegas Raiders had agreed to trade Crosby to the Baltimore Ravens, seemingly ending the long-running tension between the player and the organization.

However, in a surprising twist, the Raiders announced on social media that the Ravens have backed out of the deal. The team offered no further comment on the situation.

However, Dianna Russini of The Athletic reports that Crosby failed his physical on Tuesday, nullifying the trade.

The trade could not have become official until Wednesday at the earliest, when the NFL's new league year begins.

NFL insider James Palmer added another interesting detail, noting that Crosby had been posting on Instagram from Baltimore, indicating he had already arrived in the city and likely expected the trade to be finalized.

Who knows? Maybe this will rekindle the 49ers' interest. General manager John Lynch—and executives around the league—may inquire whether Crosby could still become available via trade once he's able to pass a physical.

San Francisco finished last season with just 20 sacks, the fewest in the NFL by a significant margin. Defensive linemen Nick Bosa and Mykel Williams are expected to return from ACL injuries, but bolstering the pass rush this offseason is believed to be a high priority.

The Raiders (then the Oakland Raiders) selected Crosby out of Eastern Michigan in the fourth round (No. 106 overall) of the 2019 NFL Draft. Over seven NFL seasons, he has appeared in 110 NFL games, recording 439 tackles, 69.5 sacks, 133 tackles for loss, and 164 quarterback hits.

Crosby has earned five Pro Bowl selections (2021–2025) and second-team All-Pro honors in 2021 and 2023, cementing his status as one of the NFL's most respected pass rushers.
