Cleveland Browns insider Tony Grossi of ESPN Cleveland/The Land on Demand teased on Sunday night that the 2-8 Browns could be "nearing" replacing head coach Kevin Stefanski with current consultant and former Tennessee Titans coach Mike Vrabel.
During a Monday appearance on ESPN Cleveland's "The Really Big Show," Grossi explained following Cleveland's 35-14 loss at the New Orleans Saints on Sunday that the Browns could turn to Vrabel if Cleveland gets embarrassed during the upcoming "Thursday Night Football" home game against the 8-2 Pittsburgh Steelers.

While Vrabel went 54-45 across six regular seasons with Tennessee and won the Associated Press Coach of the Year Award for the 2021 campaign, he was never meant to serve as any type of threat to Stefanski after Stefanski earned Coach of the Year honors for the second time of his Cleveland tenure. However, all signs indicate Stefanski and general manager Andrew Berry will have to own the controversial decision to replace fan-favorite quarterback Baker Mayfield with Deshaun Watson years ago.
The Browns gave Watson a fully guaranteed five-year, $230M contract in March 2022. He has since started just 19 regular-season games for Cleveland, suffered a ruptured Achilles tendon on Oct. 20 and may have taken his final meaningful snap with the organization. Watson was one of the league's worst starting signal-callers when healthy this season, and the Browns have now lost back-to-back games with Jameis Winston in the lineup.
In New Orleans, the Browns and Saints were tied 14-14 before Cleveland surrendered 21 unanswered fourth-quarter points. Fair or not, the perception exists that some Browns players made "business decisions" as Taysom Hill put the game out of reach. How Stefanski's roster responds to such takes could determine if he is still employed on the final Monday of November.
As of early Monday afternoon, DraftKings Sportsbook listed the Browns as four-point underdogs for the showdown with the rival Steelers. That probably shouldn't be considered a "must-win" game regarding Stefanski's status because of the states of the two clubs, but his players may need to do more than just show up at Huntington Bank Field to ensure he stays put through at least Week 18.
