Will Bucky Irving play against the Chargers? Latest injury update for the Bucs running back

Bucky Irving has been a huge bright spot for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in 2024 and it's easy to see why he's going to be needed if the team wants to keep its current winning streak alive against the Los Angeles Chargers.

His availability for the game is currently unknown, however, due to a couple of injuries he picked up against the Carolina Panthers. Said injuries caused him to leave last week's game against the Las Vegas Raiders early after playing just 10 snaps.

Irving was considered a non-participant as the Bucs conducted a walkthrough on Wednesday and he did not participate in Thursday's practice, which was not deemed as such. Bucs head coach Todd Bowles told reporters on Friday that Irving will carry a questionable designation going into Sunday's game against the Chargers. It also sounds like he could be a game-time decision.

"They're questionable, right now. We'll see as they get closer to the game. We may have to work them out beforehand and see how they feel," Bowles said when asked about Irving's and safety Christian Izien's statuses.

It would certainly be a blow to not have Irving on the field, but the Bucs still have two very capable backs to utilize in Rachaad White and Sean Tucker. Both guys have proven that they can handle the load and be productive on the field. In fact, the Bucs are just one of three teams that have three running backs with at least 236 rushing yards on the season and the trio of Irving, White, and Tucker easily lead the way among the group with 1,480 combined rushing yards that average out to 5.1 yards per carry.
