The 2024 season has been a frustrating one for Caleb Williams, the first overall pick in the NFL Draft, but it's been nothing short of a historic debut season for the Chicago Bears' rookie quarterback.
Despite losing both his head coach and his offensive coordinator during the season amid a nine-game losing streak while being the most sacked quarterback in the league, Williams has never lost his confidence.
The rookie continues to hold his head up high after each game and break down what he needs to do individually to get better for the next game. That's the kind of mentality you want to see from your quarterback and the play on the field is proving the Bears right for deciding to draft him with the first overall selection.
After Sunday's game against the Detroit Lions, Williams now has thrown for 3,271 passing yards with 19 passing touchdowns and just 5 interceptions. His play has steadily continued to improve and as a result, he's closing in on another record.
Williams has already shattered all of the Bears' rookie passing records including passing yards, passing touchdowns, and rushing yards by a rookie quarterback. With two games left to be played, Williams now has his sights set on the franchise's all time single-season record.
After reaching 3,271 yards on Sunday, Williams became the first rookie in Bears' history to throw for 3,000+ passing yards. That total has him at sixth on the franchise's single-season leaderboard, trailing Erik Kramer and four different seasons by Jay Cutler.
Kramer set the team's single-season passing yard record in 1995 throwing for 3,838 yards. Williams needs just 568 yards over the final two weeks to surpass that mark and hold the team's single-season record in his first year in the NFL.

That means Williams just needs to average 284 passing yards over the final two games against the Seattle Seahawks and the Green Bay Packers, and it's entirely possible as long as the team lets him play out the final two games.
After throwing for 334 yards on Sunday, Williams became the first quarterback in team history to record 4 games with 300+ passing yards in a season. Those four games are the only instances he's gone over the 284 yard mark.
The Bears' next game will be against the Seahawks on Thursday Night Football in Chicago. The Seahawks have allowed 231.6 passing yards per game this season, but only 193.7 passing yards per game on the road. At home, Williams is averaging 225.6 yards per game.
The Bears will then face the Packers in Week 18 at Lambeau Field. The last time Williams faced Green Bay, he threw for 231 yards in Week 11. On the road this season, Williams is averaging 209.4 yards per game.
Therefore, Williams is going to have to put together some really strong performances through the air over the final two games to clinch yet another franchise mark. Even if he doesn't get there, this season has been a historic one for the rookie. And it's only a matter of time until that record has his name beside it.
