Will Chiefs Break Their Own Unwritten Rule?

The Kansas City Chiefs will be on their revenge tour in 2025 after being brutally beaten in the Super Bowl by the Philadelphia Eagles.

Such was how the Chiefs lost; some are coming to the conclusion that the dynasty with Patrick Mahomes and Andy Reid is coming to an end.

Granted, we aren't ready to push the AFC champs aside after making the Super Bowl in each of the last three seasons, winning two, but there's no denying that Kansas City's aura of invincibility has been tarnished.

Luckily, the franchise can always get it back, and with the NFL schedule being released, the Chiefs will have a chance to get their revenge against the Eagles early on in 2025, in what ESPN is calling a "circle this date" game for the AFC West franchise.

"The Chiefs are still stinging from their Super Bowl LIX loss to the Philadelphia Eagles, but they won't have to wait long for a chance at revenge," ESPN writes. "Philadelphia comes to Arrowhead Stadium on Sept. 14. The Chiefs under Andy Reid generally have tried not to make any game, particularly one so early in the season, bigger than another. They might break their unwritten rule in Week 2."

Now, these "revenge" games are a little bit different because in the grand scheme of things, a Chiefs win doesn't erase the Super Bowl loss and for the Eagles, they would much rather win the Super Bowl than this Week 2 matchup.

But still, it presents a big mental challenge for the Chiefs because there is a fair chance that both will be making the playoffs in 2025 and going deep, so they may meet again.

If the Chiefs lose again, some doubt might start to creep in against the Eagles, which is nightmare fuel in the playoffs.

But win, and Kansas City will know it has the weapons to down the defending Super Bowl champs.

So while this matchup takes place in Week 2, it does have a lot riding on the result.
