The Kansas City Chiefs have gotten off to their slowest start in the Patrick Mahomes era, and are 0-2 for the first time since 2014, with the New York Giants up next on the schedule.
Patrick Mahomes was trying to do it all on Sunday, but the Kansas City Chiefs ultimately fell short against the Philadelphia Eagles with another poor showing from the offense.
This weekend, they’ll play a hungry New York Giants team, that just came up empty in a thrilling shootout against the Dallas Cowboys.
The Kansas City Chiefs are at serious risk of falling behind this season, having already lost their first two games of the 2025 season.
It was widely documented that the AFC West was going to be more competitive than ever this year, given the ascension of both Sean Payton’s Denver Broncos and Jim Harbaugh’s LA Chargers, plus the arrival of Pete Carroll with the Las Vegas Raiders.
Many believed the Chiefs would have a tougher battle in the division than ever before, and that showed in the opening game of the season when they fell short against the LA Chargers in Brazil.
Kansas City is operating shorthanded on offense this year, and they are now dealing with the absences of both Rashee Rice (suspension) and Xavier Worthy (shoulder injury).

The Eagles were able to eliminate the pass game on Sunday by playing tight-man coverage on the Chiefs’ wide receivers, while bracketing Travis Kelce.
Cam Newton suggested teams have figured out the blueprint on how to beat Mahomes, and until they find receivers who can win in man coverage, the problems will continue.
After losing in Week 2 against the Eagles, the Chiefs now desperately need to stop the slide.
Kay Adams had the Bussin’ with the Boys hosts, Taylor Lewan and Will Compton, on her show this week, discussing the potential for an upset in Week 3.
Lewan and Compton discussed the Giants’ fight in Week 2, after a dismal performance during kickoff weekend against the Washington Commanders.
Russell Wilson and the Giants’ offense recorded 506 total yards against the Cowboys’ defense, which included 450 yards and three touchdowns for the quarterback.

Considering the way the Chiefs’ secondary struggled in Week 1 against the Chargers’ high-volume offense, this could absolutely be a trap game.
Will Compton then pointed to the urgency of the Chiefs winning in Week 3:
“The Chiefs are going to have to play some real opponents; they have to win this game. This is a must-win situation.”
The Giants have now proven that they can put 35+ points on the board, while the Chiefs have really struggled to move the football in both games so far this season.
The Chargers’ defense held Mahomes and company to just six points in the first half, and the Eagles made life extremely difficult for them in Week 2.
One of the biggest issues the Chiefs have right now is their desperate struggle to move the football in the run game, which has led to the offense falling flat collectively.

Mahomes has no receivers who can consistently get open, and even when he has a guy that wins over the top, there have been inconsistencies in connecting on those opportunities.
They’re hoping to get Xavier Worthy back for the matchup, and it’s shown how badly they’ve missed him these last two weeks.
The Chiefs will need to contain Malik Nabers and the Giants’ pass game this weekend. If they don’t, the slide could continue.
Kansas City will not want to get into a shootout, given the current position of their offense, so the defense needs to do their job against a Giants team with nothing to lose.
