Will Eagles be sellers at the NFL trade deadline?

The Philadelphia Eagles (2-4) seem headed into a transition year after franchise quarterback Jalen Hurts was diagnosed with blood clots and placed on injured reserve. NFL writer and analyst Ben Solak of ESPN expects the Eagles general manager Howie Roseman to be busy on the phone as the NFL trade deadline lingers.

Solak highlighted some moves the Eagles could make.

CB Riq Woolen to the Bears for a 2027 fourth-round pick

"Woolen is one of the more interesting trade candidates in Philadelphia. The Eagles clearly intended to make Woolen a one-year player and recoup a compensatory draft pick for him next year after a strong season in Vic Fangio's defense," Solak wrote.

The Chicago Bears, meanwhile, have every reason to be aggressive after watching their secondary struggle against the Packers, giving up 266 receiving yards to Christian Watson and Matthew Golden. A defense that asks its corners to survive on an island as often as Chicago's simply needs better answers at the position.

RB Saquon Barkley to the Texans for a 2027 third-round pick, 2027 sixth-round pick, 2028 second-round pick and RB Woody Marks

Roseman pushed his chips to the center of the table when he signed Barkley in 2024, and the gamble paid off with a Super Bowl parade. Two years later, the Eagles are staring at a very different reality.

"I think the Eagles will say Barkley isn't unavailable so that acquiring teams are compelled to send that can't-refuse offer," Solak wrote. "Remember: Barkley, if traded, would hit the Eagles with about $26.5 million in dead cap in 2027...on top of the $27.1 million [A.J.] Brown has already left behind. That's a big hurdle to overcome."

If Houston is serious about climbing back into the playoff race, there may not be a more impactful midseason addition than Barkley.

Houston already has a franchise quarterback in C.J. Stroud and a true No. 1 receiver in Nico Collins. What the Texans don't have is a running game that consistently forces defenses to change how they play. Barkley would solve that problem overnight.

Too often, opposing defenses can devote extra attention to Collins because Houston's rushing attack hasn't made them pay for it. Barkley changes the math.

General manager Nick Caserio already made a splash deal acquiring Marvin Harrison Jr. from the Arizona Cardinals for a 2027 second-round pick and a 2027 seventh-round draft pick.

The Texans also find themselves in a unique spot. At 2-4, they're not necessarily running out of time. A conservative approach may preserve draft capital, but it won't necessarily save their season. Adding Barkley would send a message that Houston believes its window is now.
