Will Howard Showing Steelers Initiative

Many thought the Pittsburgh Steelers were going to draft a quarterback in one of the first few rounds of the 2025 NFL Draft. But that was not the case.

They waited until the sixth round on Day 3 to draft Ohio State's. Will Howard with the 185th pick. But despite his low draft pick, Howard immediately showed the Steelers he was ready to play by reaching out to quarterbacks coach Tom Arth the day after the draft concluded.

In an interview with Devin Jackson of the Inquirer, Howard's mother, Maureen, said that Arth was very appreciative of the initiative that her son took.

"[Arth] wrote [Will] back and said, 'Hey, we were going to give you the weekend off, but this is why we drafted you, because it’s the kind of worker you are,'"Howard's mom said. "No one will outwork [Will], I can guarantee you that he’ll give it everything he has."

The quarterback situation is a bit of a question mark for the Steelers right now, as they do not know for sure if they are getting Aaron Rodgers in free agency or not. Even if they do, Howard could have a large role in the near future.

But if Rodgers decides to retire, or the Steelers move on, he could play a big part instantly. He is in a quarterback room with Mason Rudolph and Skylar Thompson, and could out-shine those guys if he is given the opportunity.

Only time will tell just how good of a value pick the Steelers got with the former Ohio State Buckeye.
