The city of Baltimore is still mourning the devastating loss to the Buffalo Bills but it's time to start thinking about the offseason, which could lead to major changes on both sides of the ball.
The Ravens have 20 players on the roster that will enter free agency but we all know some contracts will be terminated during the following weeks.
All-Pro cornerback, Marlon Humphrey didn't hold back after the Bills loss, foreshadowing that this unit will likely be disbanded.
"Honestly, I know this sounds kind of just not really a great answer, but there's only a select few people that know they're going to be here next year," Humphrey told reporters post-game (H/T Sports Illustrated).
Humphrey didn't stop there. He acknowledged that his time in Baltimore could be coming to an end as well.
"I know I have no more years guaranteed on this existing contract, so it's whatever message you have ... You could be on this team. You could be on another team. Some guys will stay, some guys will leave, and I fall into that same bucket. So, the message is, 'We lost. Get over it,' and we'll kind of see where the offseason goes,"
With a $25.4 million cap hit for 2025, Humphrey’s is the second highest on the team, just behind Lamar Jackson’s. He’s still performing well, but he’ll be turning 29 next season, which is when many cornerbacks start to see a drop in performance.
Humphrey, who just received first-team All-Pro honors as a slot cornerback this season, is probably looking at a new deal or at least some changes to his current contract, just like a few other players.
Letting him go or trading him could free up some serious cap space, but it would also leave a big hole in a secondary that’s already had depth issues this year.
On top of that, Baltimore’s cap situation isn’t the only problem. The team's struggles in the playoffs—especially their 1-4 record in the last five games—means it’s time for a serious look at the roster. DeCosta has built a really strong unit, but having talent hasn’t been enough to get them through the postseason.
Humphrey is a fan favorite and a leader in the locker room and the secondary which is loaded with talented youth. It will be interesting to see how things work out.
