Will the Green Bay Packers Offensive Line Be Better in 2025?

The Green Bay Packers will open training camp with a revamped offensive line for 2025. The team has brought in new players, had another change positions and will have competition for at least two starting positions this summer. But the ultimate question will be whether the Packers offensive line will be better in 2025 than it was last season?

Will the Packers Offensive Line Be Better in 2025? A Departure and Position Switch

Last year, the Packers featured Josh Myers at center. The former second-round pick out of Ohio State never lived up to his high draft status. While he started when he was healthy for all four seasons in Green Bay, he struggled with consistency. The Packers decided not to re-sign Myers during the offseason, and he signed a free agent deal with the New York Jets.

The Packers then asked starting left guard Elgton Jenkins to take over the starting center position. Jenkins agreed but asked for a restructuring of his contract in order to provide assurances he will be with the team beyond 2025. Centers typically get played less than guards. Jenkins’ present contract has a large salary next season which may lead to his release. Jenkins did not show up for voluntary OTAs and did not take part in drills during mandatory OTAs. The team still needs to resolve his contract situation.

Jenkins has played center for the Packers before and remains capable of playing all five positions along the offensive line. He will likely be an upgrade over Myers at center.

The New Left Guard

While Jenkins will likely be an upgrade over Myers, the Packers then needed to find a new starting left guard. To fill that role, they signed free agent Aaron Banks. Banks has started for the past three seasons with the 49ers.

Banks stands 6’5” and weighs 325 pounds. Scouts consider him a strong run blocker who should help open holes for Josh Jacobs and the rest of the Packers runners. His pass blocking will likely not be as good as Jenkins’ was, but the Packers are hoping he’s going to be good enough to protect quarterback Jordan Love.

The combination of Banks and Jenkins needs to be an upgrade over the duo of Jenkins and Myers.

Will the Packers Offensive Line Be Better in 2025? The Position Battles

The Packers will likely have two position battles in training camp this summer. The first will come at left tackle. Rasheed Walker started there for the past two seasons. The Penn State alum has done a solid job protecting Love’s blind side. However, 2025 will be the final year of his rookie contract. After the Packers extended right tackle Zach Tom, they may not have enough cap space to also sign Walker to a new contract.

Walker’s competition at left tackle will come from 2024 first-round pick, Jordan Morgan. Morgan battled with Walker at OTAs last season, but it was quickly apparent Walker was the better option. This summer, Morgan will again try to prove he can be a successful NFL tackle. That was the position he played in college. Many scouts believe he may be better suited to play guard in the NFL because of his short arms (by NFL standards).

If Morgan doesn’t win the left tackle spot, he will again battle with incumbent Sean Rhyan for the right guard job. Before Morgan suffered an injury that limited him to six games, he rotated series with Rhyan at right guard. Like Walker, Rhyan will play this season under the final year of his rookie contract. His next contract, whether it’s with the Packers or elsewhere, will be greater if he has a strong 2025.

The coaching staff would like to see Morgan win a starting job somewhere along the offensive line. Matt LaFleur has said he wants to get the best fie players on the field as starters. The question is who will be included as the best five and whether that unit can outplay last year’s offensive line and improve upon it.
