Will TreVeyon Henderson Finally Break Out in Week 9?

New England Patriots running back TreVeyon Henderson was the 45th pick, on average, in 2025 fantasy football drafts, going RB18 overall, and he has been nothing short of a bust thus far.

While he flashed some of the hyped-up talent in Week 8 by posting a career-best 75 rushing yards on a mere 10 totes, the Ohio State product has a chance to really go big vs. the Atlanta Falcons in Week 9 with the Pats having ruled out running back Rhamondre Stevenson (toe).

New England is dangerously low on proven runners entering this contest, and it will be Henderson's best opportunity to showcase he's ready for a full workload. Expect the Patriots to elevate someone from the practice squad to assist Henderson and Terrell Jennings, the only other healthy back on the active roster as of Friday afternoon.

Should I Start TreVeyon Henderson in Week 9?

It has been shocking how little offensive coordinator Josh McDaniels has dialed up Henderson's digits in the passing game. Since Week 1's six-target-and-catch display, we've seen him catch 10 total balls on a criminal 12 looks.

One thing that changed in Week 8 was how he used on the ground, seeing 68% of his attempts on the perimeter to take advantage of his explosiveness. This helped him gain 19 yards over expectation, according to NFL Next Gen Stats.

The dual-threat back faces an excellent matchup for versatile running backs as the Falcons have granted 23.6 PPR points per week, which is tied for the ninth-highest average in 2025.

An offensive score has come at a rate of once per game at a clip of every 27.9 touches, and one more touchdown has come through the air than on the ground. RBs have generated 129.9 total yards on average. Despite five backs getting into double-digit PPR territory vs. the Atlanta in seven games, only two have more than 15 points, and Christian McCaffrey leads the pack with 39.1 in Week 7.

All of this screams Henderson will be a stud in Week 9, but he should still be started only as a low-end RB2 based on the shenanigans we have come to expect from McDaniels and his boss, Mike Vrabel. Furthermore, the Falcons freshly gave up four passing strikes to Tua Tagovailoa in Week 8, so it won't come as a total surprise if QB Drake Maye is the emphasis of New England's plans.

Nevertheless, even with the potential to pull out your hair come Sunday afternoon, this is Henderson's time to shine, and fantasy managers must start him in all formats.
