Former Los Angeles Rams players Willie Lampkin, Brennan Jackson, Derion Kendirck and Charles Woods were claimed off waivers.
Lampkin was claimed by the Philadelphia Eagles, while Jackson landed with the Las Vegas Raiders, Kendrick with the Seattle Seahawks and Woods with the New England Patriots. The Rams did not place any waiver claims.
Lampkin was a standout in Los Angeles’ first preseason game against the Dallas Cowboys, holding up well against NFL-level pass rushers. Although undersized for an interior lineman, Lampkin’s got great hands and understanding of leverage and now heads to Philadelphia who has become renowned for their development of offensive lineman.
Considering Lampkin has been dealing with knee and ankle injuries, the Rams tried to sneak him through waivers but were unsuccessful in their attempt, losing him to the Eagles.
Jackson was a fifth-round pick in the 2024 NFL Draft and was considered an intriguing pass-rush prospect, but injuries hampered his ability to stay on the field and make an impact. With L.A. deeper than ever at linebacker, Jackson didn’t have a home on the roster and will now try to crack the rotation in Las Vegas.
Kendrick was another former Rams draft prospect that seemed in line for a bigger role, but unfortunately he lost a season after tearing his ACL last year. While Kendrick returned this training camp healthy, his spot on the outside had already been filled by the likes of Ahkello Witherspoon, Darious Williams and Cobie Durant. The Seahawks make for a solid landing spot as they’re a rebuilding team looking for long-term pieces on both sides of the football.
Lastly, Woods signed with the Rams as an undrafted free agent in 2024 and appeared in 12 games before being cut and re-signed to the practice squad. Woods later signed a reserve/future contract with Los Angeles and played in preseason, amassing four tackles before sustaining a concussion.
If the players had cleared waivers, then the Rams would have been able to re-sign them to their practice squad. Unfortunately, teams around the league were wise to scoop them up as each has legitimate upside at their respective positions. The Rams had four players claimed, which was the most in the league.
However, this goes to show that L.A. is confident in their current roster if they were willing to let talented players test the waiver market. This is perhaps the deepest roster of the Sean McVay era.
Following roster trim downs across the NFL, the Rams announced they signed 16 players to their practice squad:
OL A.J. Arcuri, OL Wyatt Bowles, WR Tru Edwards, CB A.J. Green (veteran), DT Jack Heflin, S Tanner Ingle, CB Cam Lampkin, OL Dylan McMahon,, OLB Jamil Muhammad, ILB Elias Neal, DT Bill Norton, WR Brennan Presley, RB Ronnie Rivers (veteran), RB Cody Schrader, S Nate Valcarcel and TE Mark Redman
