Willis is not Being Paid to Fail

I have read where some fans are questioning why Malik Willis was signed when we traded away Jaylen Waddle and could potentially trade De’Von Achane, the two best weapons of the Dolphins offense.

The Malik Willis signing was a great one, a potential future franchise quarterback for a 45 million two-year contract, very inexpensive for an NFL quarterback starter.

Jon-Eric Sullivan has said they will draft a quarterback in every draft until they find their QB1, but the signing of Malik Willis steers me in a different direction for the 2026 draft.

The Dolphins have so many holes to fill in almost every other position group that the only roster positions that appear secure, other than quarterback, are the kicker, punter, and long snapper.

I trust Sullivan and Hafley for taking a shot at a potential star quarterback with whom they were very familiar on a day-to-day basis.

And they did not sign Willis up to fail.

Even if a trade occurs for De’Von Achane, given a multi-pick draft offer, the Dolphins’ top brass will be sure to give Willis the offensive scheme, play-calls, and weapons to give him a shot at success.

I don’t foresee the 2026 season as anything more than a 5–7 team at best, but I predict the team will be competitive and fight to win every game.

The most important objective for the Dolphins in 2026 is to create a winning culture and attitude that forms the foundation for future years and allows Sullivan to crawl us out of the salary-cap hell he inherited from Grier.

And seeing a dual-threat quarterback behind center for the Dolphins for the first time in their history will be something to look forward to, despite the eventual results in the win column.
