With Patriots looming, Steelers need injured RB Najee Harris to get well fast

In a victory over the Bengals in Week 1, Steelers running back Najee Harris suffered an injury to his right foot. A Steelers source told the NFL Network’s Mike Giardi that Harris’ injury isn’t “considered a big deal,” but his status for Week 2 against the Patriots remains unclear.

What is clear is the Steelers need Harris because they have no quality depth behind him.

Undrafted rookie free agent Jaylen Warren, who rushed for seven yards on three carries in Week 1, also filled in when Harris went down during training camp. The Steelers also have Benny Snell, who started in five games over his first two seasons, but the emergence of Harris limited his carries (36) last season.

ESPN’s NFL Nation Steelers reporter Brooke Pryor wrote that Harris was spotted wearing a protective boot on his right foot after the game. He suffered a Lisfranc sprain to his left foot during training camp.

Per NFL Network Insider Ian Rapoport, the Steelers are focusing on the Lisfranc area in Harris' right foot this time. (Here's more on LisFranc injuries.)

Harris underwent an MRI on Monday, but the Steelers will run more tests on Harris to determine if it’s just aggravated or something more serious, Rapoport added.

Harris is coming off an impressive rookie campaign in which he rushed for 1,200 yards, a Steelers rookie record.

The Steelers need a strong running game to help quarterback Mitch Trubisky settle into the offense. Harris was the only Steeler who scored an offensive touchdown in Week 1.
