'World's oldest' Patriots fan dies at age 106

The woman recognized as the "world's oldest" fan of the New England Patriots has passed away. 

According to The Associated Press (h/t ESPN) and Shanna McCarriston of CBS Sports, Myrtle Milledge died on Tuesday at the age of 106 at a hospice house in Maine. 

Originally from the town of Mexico, Milledge first became a fan of the franchise when it was known as the Boston Patriots of the old American Football League in the 1960s. 

"Myrtle was recently recognized as being the Oldest Patriots Fan in the world by receiving a New England Patriot Jersey with her name and the number 106 to represent her age," reads a portion of her obituary. "She also received a signed letter from Robert Kraft, the owner of the Patriots team. She enjoyed watching many sports, particularly the New England teams." 

After the Patriots defeated the Los Angeles Rams to win Super Bowl LIII, Milledge served as grand marshal of a parade to honor the then-champions. Milledge enjoyed plenty of memorable victories during the second half of her life and witnessed the Patriots win the Super Bowl on six occasions during the 2000s thanks largely to the efforts of head coach Bill Belichick and quarterback Tom Brady.

According to the obituary, Frederick Milledge, Jr., her youngest child, died serving in the military in Vietnam in 1968. Frederick, her husband, passed away in 1970.
