Cleveland Browns head coach Kevin Stefanski has seemingly said plenty about how he views rookie quarterback and 2025 fifth-round draft pick Shedeur Sanders via how Stefanski has treated Sanders from the start of springtime workouts through the final Friday of October.
2025 third-round selection Dillon Gabriel has been above Sanders on the depth chart since the draft, and Gabriel has gone 1-2 as Cleveland's starter since the club traded Week 1 QB1 Joe Flacco to the Cincinnati Bengals on Oct. 7.
During Friday's edition of ESPN Cleveland's "The Really Big Show," Browns insider Tony Grossi addressed whether or not the club would move on from Sanders before the Nov. 4 trade deadline if Stefanski had the final say regarding such a decision.
"I would say, 'True,'" Grossi responded when asked if he thinks Stefanski would pull the trigger on a Sanders trade. "I just don't think [Stefanski] considers [Sanders] a quarterback of value."
Ever since the draft, some have suggested that Browns owner Jimmy Haslam essentially forced general manager Andrew Berry to grab Sanders two rounds after the club selected Gabriel. Back in August, Berry insisted that the Browns "made a decision that we thought was best for the team" and were "really happy to have Shedeur as part of the program."
Meanwhile, Stefanski didn't hide earlier this month that the Browns trading Flacco to the Bengals "was not something that we saw coming."
Sanders has yet to make his regular-season debut but is on track to serve as Cleveland's QB2 when the 2-5 Browns play at the New England Patriots (5-2) this coming Sunday. The Browns reportedly want Sanders to receive "a full week of practice and a game plan built for him" before he starts a game later this season.
That said, Grossi noted on Friday that the Browns could elevate Bailey Zappe from the practice squad if they deal Sanders to a different team before Nov. 4. Grossi also revealed that Cleveland could clear Deshaun Watson (Achilles) to begin practicing after the club's Week 9 bye wraps up. From there, the Browns would have 21 days to activate Watson or stash him on the physically unable to perform list for the rest of the campaign.
"If the Browns feel that they're covered and they have an offer (for Sanders), why not?" Grossi added about a possible trade.
In short, it sounds like there's at least a chance that Sanders could have a new NFL home before he takes a regular-season in-game snap.
