WR Darius Slayton Drawing Interest

While Anderson doesn’t name the clubs considering Slayton, she points to Indianapolis as a speculative fit. That’s all it is for the moment, as Anderson adds that the Colts have not contacted Slayton. There may be potential for a Slayton-Colts union because of his connection to quarterback Daniel Jones, a former Giant. The two have been teammates for most of their careers.

Slayton and Jones, a Giant from 2019-24, entered the NFL in the same draft class. New York took Jones sixth overall and later grabbed Slayton in the fifth round. The oft-injured Jones never played a full season as a member of the Giants, though he came close when he made 16 starts in 2022. Slayton had one of his most productive years then, as the 6-foot-1, 198-pounder hauled in 46 passes for 724 yards.

The Giants waived Jones in November 2024, at which point he looked like a bust. However, before tearing his Achilles last December, Jones revived his career over 13 starts with the Colts. Their biggest offseason moves included retaining Jones on a two-year, $88MM contract and re-signing wide receiver Alec Pierce to a four-year, $114MM deal. Pierce is now the No. 1 option in a receiving corps that lost Michael Pittman Jr. in a trade with the Steelers.

The Colts brought in longtime Charger Keenan Allen as a Pittman replacement in late August, but he is off to an inauspicious start. The 34-year-old was arrested on drunken driving charges a week and a half after he signed with the Colts. Allen could eventually face a suspension under the league’s personal conduct policy.

Even if the league does not discipline Allen this season, there is a case the Colts would benefit from adding another capable receiver. Laquon Treadwell, Ashton Dulin and Deion Burks round out the depth chart behind Pierce, Allen and Josh Downs. The Vikings chose Treadwell in the first round in 2016, but he has fallen well short of expectations in the pros. Not only that, but Treadwell hasn’t even caught a regular-season pass since 2023. Dulin has primarily been a special teams contributor during his six-year career, and Burks is a seventh-round rookie.

Regardless of whether he joins the Colts or a different team, Anderson suggests Slayton will not sign until sometime after Week 1. The 29-year-old was “encumbered” in camp after undergoing core-muscle surgery in April, per Anderson. By waiting to sign, Slayton would further distance himself from the procedure.
