WR Trent Taylor Retires

Taylor entered the league as a fifth-round pick of the 49ers in 2017. He played out his rookie contract with San Francisco, totaling 41 appearances during that span. Taylor logged a 48% snap share on offense as a rookie, but he saw his playing time decrease over the course of his career.

Nevertheless, the Louisiana Tech product handled a steady role on special teams as a member of the 49ers and elsewhere around the NFL. Taylor spent a pair of seasons with the Bengals after his initial San Francisco tenure came to an end. In 2022, Taylor served as Cincinnati’s primary punt returner. He had previously held that role with the 49ers, and he wound up doing so as well in 2023 as a member of the Bears.

Following his single campaign in Chicago, Trent returned to where his career began. He wound up making a pair of appearances with the 49ers in 2024 and signed a reserve/futures deal following the season. Last June, however, Taylor landed on injured reserve; that ended his 2025 campaign before it began. After a lengthy spell on the open market this offseason, he has opted to hang up his cleats.

With today’s news, Taylor’s NFL tenure comes to an end at the age of 32. In all, he appeared in 87 combined regular and postseason games and totaled roughly $6.4MM in career earnings.
