One of the NFL's biggest questions is surrounding where Miami Dolphins cornerback Jalen Ramsey will play in 2025 and it could very much be the Philadelphia Eagles.
Last month, it was reported that the Dolphins and Ramsey mutually agreed to find a trade partner for the 30-year-old cornerback. Since then, a whirlwind of teams have been linked to make a move for him.
The Eagles should monitor the situation as their division rivals, the Washington Commanders and Dallas Cowboys, have been linked to Ramsey. That won't stop Philadelphia from being in the conversation as well.
CBS Sports writer Brad Crawford's most recent article listed five NFL teams who are the best fits for Ramsey. Crawford had the Eagles on his mind and had a blunt message for general manager Howie Roseman on whether he should discuss a trade with Miami.
"Adding a seven-time Pro Bowler to a locker room coming off a Super Bowl title is a no-brainer for Howie Roseman if the details work out. With former 2024 first-round pick Quinyon Mitchell and 2023 fourth-rounder Kelee Ringo expected to start, Ramsey could take Ringo's spot and bolster a budding unit. The Eagles already made one head-turning move this offseason at the back end after trading away dependable safety C.J. Gardner-Johnson to the Houston Texans. They drafted former Texas star Andrew Mukuba as his intended replacement."
Ramsey has compiled one of the best resumes among cornerbacks in the last decade, having made seven Pro Bowls with three different teams. He's been an AP first-team All-Pro selection three times after catching 24 interceptions and allowing a completion percentage of 58.4 in his nine-year career.
Philadelphia should consider the move as long as they don't have to surrender a first-round pick for Ramsey. The Eagles have nine draft picks for next year, so they have the ammunition to make a trade.
Pairing Ramsey with Quinyon Mitchell and Cooper DeJean would instantly make the Eagles one of the best secondaries in the NFL. Mitchell and DeJean can learn from Ramsey, which will only make them better, considering both were top-10 cornerbacks, according to PFF.
Eagles defensive coordinator Vic Fangio loves cornerbacks who will get physical and make plays on the ball aggressively, which is what Ramsey can do well. Ramsey is a perfect fit for the Eagles' defense and would be a day-one starter.
On the other hand, the concern with bringing in Ramsey is the cap hit the Eagles would have to absorb. Ramsey's current contract has him with Miami through the 2028 season, and his cap hit ranges from $25 million to $36 million each season. The question for Roseman is whether he wants to pay that much for Ramsey or stick with his young cornerbacks.
It would be silly for Roseman not to at least pick up the phone and hear out the Dolphins' offer. If there is one thing Roseman is good at, it's finding a good deal on a trade to upgrade the Eagles' roster without sacrificing the future of the franchise.
