Despite being released following a costly fumble during the New York Jets’ season opener, special teamer and wide receiver Xavier Gipson holds no animosity towards the Jets or head coach Aaron Glenn.
Speaking with Zach Braziller of The New York Post in an exclusive interview, Gipson showed his appreciation for how Glenn handled the whole process of releasing him.
“He called me. I can’t do nothing but respect it,” Gipson told The Post on Friday. “He came to me first, before he went to anybody else. I can’t do nothing but respect that as a man. He just told me, ‘This is the hardest part of the business, but I’m going to have to release you.’”

Issues with ball security on returns have been a significant problem for Gipson throughout his career. He has logged 10 fumbles in 35 career games.
“I didn’t take it [getting released] personally. I knew what was at stake,” said Gipson. “There’s not too much I can complain about. I have to look in the mirror and look within. I can’t blame nobody else but me.”
Despite a highly inconsistent tenure with Gang Green, the Stephen F. Austin product will forever be remembered for his game-winning punt return touchdown in the 2023 season opener, the same night Aaron Rodgers tore his Achilles.
