Xavier Worthy could be a wide receiver two in fantasy football after it was announced Rashee Rice will likely be suspended sometime this season. Whether it is 3-4 games or 5-6 or more, regardless, the former first rounder last year has a shot to continue his hot end to the 2024 season. While Patrick Mahomes wasn’t always utilizing his downfield ability, he was getting consistent targets and usage. That can evolve even further in 2025.
The 22-year-old from Texas had a slow start, but ended last season with 59 catches, 638 yards, and six touchdowns. The former Longhorn was utilized in creative ways, sometimes even in the backfield in Andy Reid’s offense. Although he was injured alot in his collegiate career, Worthy didn’t have that many setbacks as a rookie.
As a rookie, Xavier Worthy was considered more of a boom-bust prospect fantasy wise but in reality, he became more of a floor play suprisingly that actually didn’t have as many yards with his speed profile. He was the wide receiver 31 last year in PPR according to FantasyPros, and is the receiver 29 but I would expect that rank to climb in August.
For whatever reason, him and Mahomes left alot on the field, as they weren’t on the same page till late in the year. However, I would expect him to be the focal point and improve on last season’s mistakes, averaging 3.5 receptions per game. Worthy had a wide receiver two numbers as a top 20 receiver from Weeks 15-17 and boomed in Week 1 for his rookie debut.
While they have Marquise Brown, Travis Kelce, and Juju Smith-Schuster back, the Chiefs also added fourth rounder Jalen Royals. I still expect Worthy to be a key red zone threat and hopefully more downfield as that big play weapon they envisioned when they took him in last year’s draft. Rice is currently the receiver 21 in ADP, but I expect that to flip somewhat with the speedster and would have Worthy up there with DeVonta Smith and Marvin Harrison Jr.
