It's no secret that the Chiefs need more out of their wide receiver corps in 2025.
Injuries, inexperience, and overall lack of talent have all factored into the position being a weakness for Kansas City's offense over the past few years. The deep passing game has specifically suffered after being a strength during quarterback Patrick Mahomes' early years as a starter.
The Chiefs are putting a focus on changing that in 2025. While joining Kay Adams on "Up & Adams" on Thursday, Xavier Worthy revealed that coach Andy Reid made it clear what he and the rest of the WRs need to prepare for this season.
"Coach Reid told us during OTAs, phase one, that when you come back get your hamstrings ready," Worthy said. "So, we kind of knew that we were going to be going a little deep in practice. We kind of got our bodies and got our minds ready for what we were going to be doing."
The Chiefs have plenty of speed to spare at WR with Worthy, Hollywood Brown, and Rashee Rice. We didn't get to the entire trio play together in 2024, as Brown missed the first 14 games of the season with a shoulder injury and Rice only played in the first four games before suffering a season-ending knee injury.
Hopefully those two can put their injury woes behind them and stay healthy in 2025 so they can unleash their full potential in Reid's offense. Before getting hurt, Rice led the NFL in receptions and ranked second in receiving yards. Brown was solid in his late-season return, catching 14 passes for 141 yards in five games.
As for Worthy, he emerged in a big way during the second half of his rookie year, catching an average of six passes and 85 total scrimmage yards over his last eight games. In Super Bowl LIX he set an NFL record for the most receiving yards by a rookie in Super Bowl history with 157 yards, while also catching two touchdowns.
