You Want to Play for These Guys
Somehow, with very little money, our general manager, Jon-Eric Sullivan, or “Sully”, and coach Jeff Hafley are signing a bunch of players at our positions of need.
Who are they signing?
Just football players that want to play, maybe looked over by previous teams, maybe not as good on their early NFL teams, but players who want to prove themselves.
And players who still believe they can compete in the NFL.
And they are attracted to the Miami Dolphins, not necessarily because of the weather, South Beach, or the nightlife, but because they believe in this general manager and coach.
I apologize to all the naysayers and the doubters who repeat a popular sentiment that the unproven top brass will fail again, as the previous ones have.
Yet, this feels different than previous regimes.
This feels like Jon-Eric Sullivan and Jeff Hafley want to create a culture where a willing player who works hard and wants to compete can potentially land on the roster.
Do I believe that the majority of the 26 free agent signings thus far will make the final 53?
No, I don’t.
Do I believe that Sullivan and Hafley will put together a team that will give maximum effort?
Yes, I do.
The free-agent signings also point to Sullivan and Hafley’s tendency to recruit as many players as possible, increasing the chances that some will hit.
And even though we do not know how our new top brass will handle the draft, it will not surprise me if we trade our 11th pick to acquire more picks in later rounds.
This move would be very consistent with Sullivan’s and Hafley’s philosophy.
Build from the ground up, and create opportunities to compete.
