Zach Frazier Sees Similarities in Steelers, WVU Rushing Attacks

Every rookie is adapting to the NFL and the Pittsburgh Steelers during the team’s rookie minicamp, but for second-round West Virginia center Zach Frazier, it’s a little bit different.

He’s not only responsible for his job, but as the center, he’s making the calls and protections for the entire offensive line, and also has a position that’s usually considered a leadership role, though he’s taking his time on growing into that way.

The good news for Frazier is that the zone running scheme being put in by new Pittsburgh Steelers offensive coordinator Arthur Smith is pretty similar to what he did at West Virginia as a four-year starter for the Mountaineers.

“There’s similarities and differences and everything,” he said. “Some stuff, it’s football, but yeah, there’s definitely more detail in the playbook. … Same type of plays that we had in college – wide zone, inside zone, gap. Same plays everywhere, pretty much. So feel confident in doing that.”

It’s a good thing for the Steelers that Frazier is so familiar, because the second-round rookie is likely to be at the top of the Steelers depth chart when OTAs start next week.
