Zavion Thomas Just Changed the Chicago Bears' Offensive Plans

During the Chicago Bears ‘ Week 3 preseason matchup against the Tennessee Titans, Zavion Thomas made sure to make the final game count for his audition to force himself into the offensive plans this season.

Thomas ended up with five receptions for 140 yards and a 97-yard touchdown, in addition to also having a 39-yard punt return. This explosiveness from Thomas is exactly what the Bears have needed, and it should earn him a sizable role immediately in 2026.

Ben Johnson Must Find a Role For Zavion Thomas

With having an offensive-minded head coach like Ben Johnson, he should easily be able to find ways to incorporate Thomas into the offense. Thomas doesn’t need to be a starter, and can be manufactured into the game through specific vertical routes, deep crossers, jet motion and designed touches in space.

The Bears have Rome Odunze and Luther Burden as the top two wide receivers on the team, but Thomas would help occasionally provide a different element to the offense that could help take attention off them if needed. With his speed, he can help Johnson further open up the playbook in 2026, even if it is just 10 to 15 snaps per game, it won’t take long for Thomas to make his presence felt and earn more opportunities down the line.
