Folks, you can start planning for the return of Calgary Flames hockey. Okay, the prospect tournament, at least.

The Flames are among the four teams participating in the 2024 Young Stars Classic tournament in Penticton, British Columbia from Sept. 13-16. The Canucks announced the schedule for the event on Monday morning.

Here’s how things shape up for the Flames:

  • Fri., Sept. 13 at 5 p.m. MT against the Winnipeg Jets
  • Sat., Sept. 14 at 8:30 p.m. MT against the Edmonton Oilers
  • Mon., Sept. 16 at 3:30 p.m. MT against the Vancouver Canucks

In what’s become a tradition at this event, the Flames play in the opening game and the final game of the tournament. Broadcast and streaming information has yet to be announced, but in years past we’ve had radio broadcasts from the folks at Sportsnet 960 The Fan and live streaming on the Flames website and social media channels. So we’ll see what materializes this year.

The Penticton tournament is an event where the non-college, non-European prospects from the four western Canadian teams clash for bragging rights – and as a tune-up for the main training camp that starts the following week.

The Flames have added a ton of new faces to their prospect base over the last while, and they could be sending quite a star-studded group to the Young Stars Classic. Names you can reasonably expect to see at the event include Sam Honzek, Andrew Basha, Matvei Gridin, Luke Misa, Etienne Morin, Zayne Parekh, Axel Hurtig and many others. Essentially, the Flames have stocked up their prospect base via all their retooling trades and fans can see the first wave of new faces in action in Penticton.

We’ll have roster information closer to the event when it’s announced by the Flames.
