2026/27 Calgary Flames Player Preview: Dustin Wolf

In his first full campaign with the Flames in 2024/25, Wolf announced himself on the national stage, posting a 2.64 GAA alongside a .910 save percentage, earning a long-term deal with the Flames as their goaltender of the future.

However, he took a step back a year ago behind one of the worst defensive groups the Flames have put together in years, as a 2.99 GAA and an .899 save percentage across 57 games saw him outplayed by veteran Devin Cooley for much of the year. Despite this, Wolf is still a long way away from hitting his prime, and with the experience of a little struggle this past season, he's going to take plenty away from that and improve his game moving forward as we've seen from him before.

What Will 2026/27 Look Like for Dustin Wolf?

This year, the team will again go at it with a goaltending tandem of Wolf-Cooley, and while Cooley will get the chance to prove himself yet again, Wolf is clearly the future and will be in net for the majority of appearances across 84 games.

On paper, this is the worst Flames team the fans will have to endure for the past two decades, and as a result, it's likely going to be another year for Wolf that sees the numbers inflate, but given teh overall talent, he's still going to produce given the level of talent that we've seen from him through the early parts of his career.

Despite that, fans shouldn't sour on Wolf, as he's shown that with a competent defensive group in front of him, but given that this could be rock bottom before the Flames start taking genuine steps in their rebuild under Craig Conroy, it's not going to be the best individual campaign of Wolf's career in Calgary.
