The Chicago Blackhawks announced Wednesday a wave of transactions involving highly touted prospects. Forward Frank Nazar and defensemen Louis Crevier and Kevin Korchinski have been assigned to the AHL's Rockford IceHogs . Additionally, the Blackhawks returned forward AJ Spellacy to the OHL's Windsor Spitfires.
Frank Nazar burst onto the scene with a goal on his first shot in his first NHL game last spring. His three-game stint with the Blackhawks offered a small taste of his potential, but his game needs further refinement in the AHL.
Kevin Korchinski spent all of last season in the NHL as he was still 19 years old, preventing the Blackhawks from sending him to Rockford. Now 20, Korchinski will begin the 2024-25 season with the IceHogs after a rough preseason showing with the Blackhawks. Chicago is certainly hoping Korchinski can follow in the footsteps of fellow defenseman Alex Vlasic, who serves as an AHL development success story.
After Wednesday's transactions, the Blackhawks' training camp roster features 28 players (15 forwards, nine defensemen, four goalies).
The Blackhawks continue training camp with practices on Wednesday and Thursday before hosting the Minnesota Wild for a preseason game on Friday. Puck drop is at 7:30 PM CT and the game will air on CHSN.
