70 goals or 100 assists? Debating the more impressive feat in the NHL
Connor McDavid and Auston Matthews (? Perry Nelson-USA TODAY Sports)

Tyler Yaremchuk and Frank Seravalli had a disagreement as to whether 70 goals or 100 assists is the more impressive feat on the latest episode of Daily Faceoff Live.

Tyler Yaremchuk: Frank, I want to float you a question that Paul Bissonette asked on Twitter yesterday. We have Auston Matthews, five goals in five games to get to 70 and Connor McDavid needs one more assist to get to 100, which one of those feats will be more impressive to you?

Frank Seravalli: Why is this a question? It’s 70 goals and it’s not close. And I know statistically which one has happened more often but we know the hardest thing to do in this league is to score goals, it’s not to collect assists. McDavid has had a great season, this is far from his best season, he’s probably going to be fourth on my Hart ballot, 70 goals is a lot harder.

Tyler Yaremchuk: How many guys in the league have done 70 goals? A lot.

Frank Seravalli: Well, not a lot. Matthews is only the 13th player in history to get to 65. McDavid is going to be fourth to get to 100 assists. I’m not downplaying it at all I’m just saying, ask anyone in the game what’s harder to do, score a goal or get an assist…

Tyler Yaremchuk: But 100 assists Frank?

Frank Seravalli: Ok, but if he was at 85 assists or 90 assists, no one would say a word.

Tyler Yaremchuk: But if Matthews was at 58 goals no one would be saying a word.

Frank Seravalli: No, you’re not going to sway me on that argument. Connor McDavid scored 64 goals last year…
