AHL: Charlotte Checkers Captain Zac Dalpe Announces Retirement

This morning Charlotte Checkers captain Zac Dalpe announced his retirement. Dalpe missed most of this season with an injury. He played in just nine games recording a goal and two assists. He was an even in plus/minus and had a power-play goal.

Dalpe has been the Checkers captain since rejoining the franchise in 2021-22. He’s played in 574 career AHL games between the Checkers on two separate stints, Cleveland Monsters, Iowa Wild, Rochester Americans, Utica Comets, and Albany River Rats. Dalpe has 393 career points on 220 goals and 173 assists. He is a career plus-seven with 299 penalty minutes, 66 power-play goals, 15 shorthanded goals, and 30 game-winning goals. Dalpe also captained the Monsters from 2019-22. He served as the captain of the Eastern Conference in the 2025 AHL All-Star Classic.

In 168 career NHL games between the Carolina Hurricanes, Columbus Blue Jackets, Florida Panthers, Minnesota Wild, Vancouver Canucks, and Buffalo Sabres. He recorded 32 points on 16 goals and 16 assists in 168 career games. He was a -37 with 38 penalty minutes and a power-play goal. Dalpe was drafted in the second round of the 2008 NHL Draft by the Hurricanes. He also played in 16 Stanley Cup Playoff games recording a goal. He was a minus-nine. In 47 career Calder Cup Playoff games, he had 31 points on 19 goals and 12 assists. He was a minus-three with 30 penalty minutes and eight power-play goals.
