The Providence Bruins tonight faced the Lehigh Valley Phantoms. The Bruins were looking to get back in the win column after losing back-to-back games over the weekend. The Phantoms came in riding a two-game winning streak after sweeping the Hershey Bears last weekend. Luke Cavallin got the start for Providence, bringing in a 5-1-0 record. He has a 1.96 goals-against average and a .927 save percentage. Aleksei Kolosov got the start for the Phantoms, bringing in a 10-13-1 record with a 2.65 goals-against average, a .905 save percentage, and two shutouts.

Providence Bruins vs. Lehigh Valley Phantoms 

First Period 

Providence came out ready to put the past weekend behind them outshooting the Phantoms 5-1. They then went on the power play as Lane Pederson went to the box for hooking. Matej Blumel capitalized with his 11th goal of the year. Later in the first Providence added to their lead. The goal was reviewed but it was upheld as Georgii Mekeulov scored his 17th of the year. The Phantoms would go on the power play over three minutes later when Blumel went to the box for high-sticking. Lehigh Valley was unable to convert. The period ended with Providence up 2-0 outshooting the Phantoms 14-5. 

Second Period 

In the second period, the Phantoms had their chances but Providence added to their lead. It was their captain Patrick Brown scoring his 16th of the year. With just under 6:30 minutes left in the middle period, the Phantoms got a power play chance as Riley Tufte went to the box for slashing. Lehigh Valley this time capitalized as Oliver Bonk scored his fourth goal of the year. The Phantoms kept the pressure on trying to cut into the Providence lead but the Bruins once again added to their lead. Brown was at it again with his second of the game. The period ended with the Bruins leading 4-1 and the Phantoms outshooting them in the middle frame 12-8.

Third Period 

The goals came in a flurry to start the third. The Phantoms got one back as Cooper Marody scored his sixth of the year. Just over a minute later Alexis Gendron made it a one-goal game with his tenth of the year. Just over two minutes later Providence added to its lead with John Farinacci scoring his seventh of the year. Then just over a 1:30 later Joey Abate scored his third of the year to make it 6-3. The Phantoms had another power play chance as Fabian Lysell went to the box for tripping but they failed to convert. They got another chance at a power play with Ty Gallagher going to the box for slashing. The Phantoms just couldn’t forge a comeback as they couldn’t beat Cavallin. They were able to tally one more as Jacob Gaucher scored his 11th of the year with 14 seconds left. They outshot Providence 14-7 in the final period. 

Wrap Up

Cavallin stopped 27 of the 31 shots he faced. Kolosov on the other side stopped 23 of the 29 shots he faced. Brown was the first star with his two goals. Blumel was the second star with a goal and two assists. Gaucher was the third star for the Phantoms with a goal and an assist

Providence will play its next game Saturday night against the Bridgeport Islanders at home with puck drop set for 7:05 PM EST. The Phantoms will welcome the Hartford Wolf Pack also on Saturday with puck drop set for 7:05 PM EST.
