The Providence Bruins tonight faced the Belleville Senators, riding a 12-game winning streak. They most recently beat the Bridgeport Islanders last Sunday, 3-2 in overtime. Belleville is coming off a 2-1 loss to Syracuse on Wednesday night. Michael DiPietro got the start for Providence, bringing in a 21-5-0 record. He has a 1.64 goals-against average, a .942 save percentage, and a shutout. Leevi Merilainen got the start for the Senators, bringing in a 6-5-0 record with a 3.02 goals-against average, a .903 save percentage, and a shutout.

Providence wasted no time jumping out to a 1-0 lead. Brett Harrison found the back of the net for his seventh of the year. It came only 27 seconds in. The two teams went back and forth with chances when Belleville went on the power play as Fabian Lysell went to the box for holding. Providence was able to kill off the penalty. Just before the halfway point of the period, the Senators tied it up with a goal from Athur Kaliyev, his league-leading 30th of the year. It was tied for all of 15 seconds as Riley Tufte scored his team-leading 21st of the year to give Providence a 2-1 lead. The two teams continued to have their chances in the opening period, but neither would score. The first ended with Providence leading 2-1 and outshooting Belleville 12-9
The middle period saw Providence come out dominating. Dalton Bancroft and Djubril Toure dropped the gloves; Toure got an additional two minutes for interference. Just as the penalty ended, Olle Lycksell tied the game with his tenth goal of the year. With, just over 3:30 minutes later, each team got matching penalties as Christian Wolanin and Mark Duarte each went to the box for roughing. Just under a 1:30 later, Providence took the lead back as Matej Blumel scored his tenth of the season. Providence dominated the last 30 seconds of the period as Harrison scored his second of the game, and Joey Abate, with six seconds left, scored his second of the season. Providence led after 40 minutes 5-2. They outshot Belleville 12-8 in the second period.
Providence outshot Belleville 5-1 to open the final period. Belleville then outshot Providence 6-1 after that. Providence went on the power-play with just under eight minutes left in the game, with Oskar Pettersson going to the box. Providence, even after the power play ended, dominated the second half of the period. Belleville did have another power play chance as Max Wanner went to the box for tripping. The Bruins outshot the Senators 15-10 in the final 20 minutes.
Providence outshot Belleville in the game 39-27. DiPietro stopped 22 of the 24 shots he faced. Merilainen stopped 28 of the 33 shots he faced. Lysell was the first star with his goal and an assist. Harrison was the first star with his two goals. Blumel was the second star with a goal and an assist. Georgii Merkulov was the third star with two assists.
Providence will play its next game tomorrow on the road against the Springfield Thunderbirds, with puck drop set for 6:05 PM EST. Belleville continues their road trip tomorrow as they visit the Hartford Wolf Pack, with puck drop set for 7:05 PM EST.
