The Toronto Marlies and Chicago Wolves met tonight for game five of the Calder Cup Finals. The Wolves picked up an overtime win last night to force tonight’s game. The Marlies can win the Calder Cup with a win. The Marlies had Artur Akhtyamov bringing in a 14-7 record with a 2.18 goals-against average, a .924 save percentage, and two shutouts. The Wolves had Cayden Primeau in the net. He is 9-8 with a 2.65 goals-against average and a .916 save percentage.

The two teams went back and forth for the first 1/4 of the period. Chicago took a 1-0 lead just over eight minutes in as Felix Unger Sorum scored. The Marlies went on the power play as Juuso Valimaki went to the box for hooking. The Wolves killed that penalty off. Late in the first, with 2:11 left, Josiah Slavin scored to make it 2-0. Just before the opening period ended with 28 seconds left, Landon Sim put Toronto on the board to make it 2-1. Toronto outshot Chicago 12-9.
Each team had a shot on goal in the first 1.5 minutes. Just before the three-minute mark, Skyler Brind’Amour went for hooking, giving Toronto a power play. The Marlies tied the game as Benoit-Olivier Groulx scored his eighth of the playoffs. The game is now tied 2-2. The Marlies went back on the power play just over five minutes in as Nadeau was called for tripping. The Wolves got a power-play not long after they killed their offs as Matt Benning went to the box for interference. That penalty was also killed off.
Both teams got called for penalties at 13:18 as Benning and Nadeau went to the box; Benning for holding and Nadeau for cross-checking. Just over a minute into the four-on-four, Jacob Quillan scored to give Toronto the lead 3-2. Charles Alexis Legault got called for roughing, giving Toronto another power play. They’d capitalize as Vinni Lettieri scored his 11th of the playoffs to make it 4-2. Toronto scored two goals in less than a minute and a half. Chicago got a power play as Ryan Tverberg went for hooking. It then became a five-on-three as Cedric Pare went for roughing. After the first penalty was killed off, a loose puck in the crease was somehow put home, and the Wolves made it 4-3. Under Sorum made it 4-3. That’s how the period ended with Chicago outshooting the Marlies 12-6 in the period.
Both teams went back and forth to start the potential final period of the AHL season. Chicago tried and tried but couldn’t tie the game, and the Marlies won the 2025-26 Calder Cup. The Wolves outshot the Marlies 9-5 in the third.
Akhtyamov stopped 27 of the 30 shots he faced. Primeau stopped 19 of the 23 shots he faced.
